Role and Responsibilities

This role would suit an ambitious engineer who wishes to further their career within a small and dynamic, fast growing business, which undertakes multiple quick turnaround engineering projects simultaneously on behalf of a wide client base.

This challenging role will see you working alongside the business directors and Engineering manager, overseeing the technical assurance, delivery and management of a number of design projects associated with a range of “one of a kind projects” typically related to specialist handling equipment for a range of offshore and subsea applications.

As well as leading our dynamic design team and undertaking engineering work when required, you will lead the generation of and appraisal of design concepts prior to detail design work commencing. During the design phase you will review and check a range of engineering calculations and analysis reports to verify the work of the design team prior to drawings being produced and checked before issuing to our clients.

You will also assist the Engineering Manager in appraising new enquiries and support the winning of new business with input into the company’s business strategy.

Activities will typically include:

• Checking of 3D Models, Calculations, Analysis and Drawings

• Chairing of Design Reviews

• Leading the Design Team

• Managing Projects

• Supporting the Engineering Manager

• Technical Presentations

• Training and Development of the Engineering Team

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Candidates will have a degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering and ideally have design experience within the offshore oil & gas or offshore renewables sector.

The candidate will have or be working towards Chartered Engineering status.

Preferred Skills

Applicants should have experience in the Inventor CAD package and Stadd Pro and should have some experience in leading small teams, checking drawings & calculations and have familiarity with 3rd party codes such as DNV and Lloyds.

Due to the office location and need to visit suppliers and clients a driving license and car would be needed. Some flexible working arrangements would be available for the right candidate.

This role is fundamental to the Company’s operations as we seek to grow and expand our capabilities. The role will be yours to develop and you will be encouraged to come up with your own ideas to benefit and improve the business.

The main goals of this role will be:

1) Ensure technical assurance of the company’s design work so it is safe to use, functions as required and can be built and assembled as envisioned.

2) Develop our design processes and design guidance notes to further improve our efficiency and develop our engineering team.

3) Manage design tasks and the design team to ensure projects are delivered under budget and ahead of schedule.

4) Liaise with clients and suppliers in relation to ongoing project work.

5) Assist with the winning of new project work and development of our strategic plan

The type of projects the business undertakes requires someone who can work to rapid deadlines and manage multiple contracts simultaneously. This is a crucial aspect of the role and candidates must be able to demonstrate delivery of projects in quick timescales and the ability to work on a number of different contracts at any one time.
